Sometimes the best stories grow out of unusual circumstances. When we launched the Family Run in 2021, we could hardly have imagined how quickly this new format would become an integral part of the Basler Stadtlauf.
Today, it is impossible to imagine the event without the Family Run. Together with mum, dad, grandma, grandad or other family members, participants take on the approximately 1 km course – down Freie Strasse to the finish line on Marktplatz. For once, it is not about personal bests or rankings, but about enjoying the run together and the joy of crossing the finish line side by side.
Year after year, its popularity speaks for itself: the Family Run has long been one of our most popular categories and is consistently among the first to sell out.
And 2026 is no exception: just two weeks after registration opened, 50% of the available places have already been snapped up.
